Who We're Looking For:
We are looking for detail-oriented, technically skilled L1 (Level 1) Open-Shift Quality Control Technicians to join our roster at DFI Rentals. This is not an immediate start — all applicants must be approved and complete our in-house training before they are eligible to pick up shifts. Once approved, you'll be part of our on-call roster and can sign up for available shifts when they fit your schedule.
This role supports our Inventory Department, ensuring all rental equipment meets DFI Rentals' quality standards through thorough inspection and testing. Ideal for industry freelancers and crew members who work on set but want flexible, part-time rental house work between gigs.
Ideal Qualifications and Experience:
Previous experience in a film equipment rental house, production, or similar technical role (AC, Loader, DIT, Grip, Electric, etc.)
Demonstrated knowledge of professional cinema equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting, and accessories
Advanced technical understanding of cinema camera systems (ARRI, RED, Sony, Canon) and premium optics
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
Ability to work independently and maintain consistent throughput and focus
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Reliable transportation to our DTLA location
The Role:
Schedule: On-call/freelance — shifts are posted and you choose which to accept; typical shifts are 9am–5:30pm
Work Location: In person — 3610 S San Pedro St, Los Angeles, CA 90011
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Equipment Scanning: Scan and identify returned rental equipment using our barcode system
Checklist-Based Inspection: Follow item-specific inspection checklists to thoroughly examine cameras, lenses, lighting, grip, and accessories for any issues
Issue Documentation: Record and document any damages, defects, or missing components through our software system for supervisor review
QC Clearance: Clear items that pass inspection, as indicated by our system and meet DFI Rentals' quality standards, returning them to rental-ready inventory
Workspace Maintenance: Maintain clean, organized QC workstations
How It Works:
1. Apply — Submit your application for consideration.
2. Approval — If selected, you'll be added to our pending roster.
3. Paid Training — Complete a one-day, paid training session covering equipment handling, QC procedures, and our inspection workflow.
4. Roster Access — Once trained and approved, you'll receive access to available shifts and can sign up as your schedule allows.
Compensation:
Output-based with no earning cap per day, paid per item that you inspect. Per-item rates will increase over time based on technical level.
All QC technicians are required to start at L1 and are able to progress up to L2 & L3.
Estimated Daily Ranges:
L1 - $150-$225+
L2 - $225-$337.5+Item-based pay is processed through our QC software, paid bi-weekly.
$200 flat rate for the one-day paid training session.

The Role:
Conduct thorough inspections and prepare camera equipment for rentals, confirming each item functions at peak performance.
Align with the rental team to assimilate client necessities and equipment specifications.
Maintain an organized record of equipment checks, ensuring all gear is present and in prime condition.
Clean and systematize equipment, prepping it for subsequent clients.
Engage with technicians and team peers to amplify the overall efficacy of the preparation process.
Stay abreast of the latest in camera tech and best practices for equipment upkeep.
Render feedback and recommendations to enhance the equipment preparation and rental trajectory.

Full-Time | In Person
We are seeking a knowledgeable, detail-oriented Rental Support Agent to join the DFI Rentals team. This is an in-person position ideal for someone with a strong backgroundin film equipment and cinema gear who thrives in a customer-facing role. You will serve
as the first point of contact for our clients, handling inquiries via phone, email, and live chat, resolving issues, and ensuring a seamless rental experience from start to finish.
If you know your way around a cinema camera package and love helping people — this role was made for you.
What You'll Do
• Answer inbound calls, live chat, and email inquiries from customers with prompt, professional responses
• Manage and resolve support tickets in Zendesk, keeping response and resolution times tight
• Troubleshoot customer issues related to orders, pricing, availability, and logistics. Creating and providing solutions whenever required
• Assist customers with booking questions, order modifications, add-ons, swaps, and extensions
• Provide technical guidance on gear compatibility, package recommendations, and usage questions
• Coordinate with warehouse staff, technicians, and management to resolve equipment questions and fulfill customer requests
• Maintain detailed notes on every customer interaction for internal reference
• Contribute to writing and updating help center articles, macros, and canned responses to make support faster and more consistent
• Stay current on new gear and filmmaking trends so you can speak the customer’s language
What We're Looking For
• Strong experience in customer support — ideally at a film equipment rental house, production company, or adjacent industry
• Strong working knowledge of professional cinema gear — cameras, lenses, lighting, grip, and accessories — and how it fits together on set
• Hands-on experience with Zendesk or a comparable ticketing platform
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English — you can write a clean, professional reply and also talk a stressed-out producer off a ledge
• Strong attention to detail and the discipline to document everything
• Self-motivated and organized — you can manage your own queue and priorities without being micromanaged
• A problem-solver who thinks critically, asks the right questions, and owns issues until they're resolved
Compensation
Total compensation package of up to $52,500 includes:
• Base Salary paid bi-weekly. DFI Rentals offers a competitive base salary of $42,000/year.
• Performance Bonuses: A performance bonus awarded monthly based on Customer Satisfaction Rating (CSR) scores, up to $10,500
• Non-matching 401(k) plan
• Accrued Paid Time Off accrued at 0.042 days per workday (approximately 10 days per year)
• Unlimited unpaid time off (within reason, subject to 2 week prior notice)
• 35% employee discount on rental equipment when employee is a principal crew member
